The 2018 Vintner’s Dinner highlighted North Carolina seafood, meat and produce, paired with wines from Francis Ford Coppola’s Virginia Dare Winery.
The evening was held at the historic and charming 108 Budleigh in Manteo, NC. It began with a reception featuring pickled Pamlico Sound shrimp, sweet potato biscuits with Edwards ham and other delicious appetizers. Following, the eighty-four guests were treated to a four-course menu sourced and prepared by Josh DeCarolis, Chef and Owner of Mother & Sons Trattoria, along with Phil Bey, Chef de Cuisine from Saint James. Both restaurants are affiliated with Matt Kelly’s other restaurants – Vin Rouge, Mateo Tapas and Lucky’s Delicatessen, all of Durham, NC. Sam McGann and his culinary team from Blue Point hosted the guest chefs and helped with the dinner which included dishes of NC flounder, lamb and pork, each served with a creative flair of complimentary flavors. The dinner finished with an unforgettable dessert of vanilla panna cotta and muscadine soup with pickled NC grapes, basil and pistachios.
Each of the courses was perfectly paired by Sommelier Rick Toyota from Virginia Dare Winery, who spoke to each of Virginia Dare Winery’s award-winning wines and introduced their new 1587 Chardonnay and the Ananias Pinot Noir, both from the Russian Valley.
Additionally, there was a live auction with proceeds benefiting The Lost Colony, and music by local artist, Graham Outten.
